Hello all,
The bad news about education in Afghanistan is that despite some significant development in the field since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, there are still districts in Afghanistan that has no school at all. You have districts where not a single person has gone to school for the past 30 years. Majority of the schools are closed down in the insurgency affected districts in southern Afghanistan. Taliban consider modern schooling against religious faith. BUT, they have also closed down a Madrassa – Islamic school- in Ghazni province, south-east of Afghanistan. But, why would the Taliban want to close down an Islamic school?

The basic explanation for this is that the Taliban found that particular Madrassa not that Islamic, so they had to close it down………BUT, wait.... not that Islamic? What does it mean?

Whoever gets the meaning, THAT should explain many of the problems in Afghanistan in regards to violence, culture, politics and development. In this post, I just wanted to bring the issue up for you to think if you can come up with an explanation. I’ll have mine, soon.

How about getting the author of Three Cups of Tea involved in education activities in
Afghanstan? He certainly made an impact in the so called tribal areas on the border of
Pakistan. Perhaps as a consultant.
More effort to get Purdue University inolved in agricaulture and education in country which they have not done despite being designated as a consultant in this area. Lack of safety
maybe an issue no matter who gets involved.

A 'Wired' Mission

Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.

For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.

Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.
