A 'Wired' Mission
Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.
For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.
Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.

I am very impressed with the work you have done to forge meaningful links between students and teachers around the world. The development of Web 2.0 technologies has made online collaboration easier and effective at many levels. We now need to focus on what the outcomes of these liaisons can be...and to make a difference to the world by promoting understanding and peace is high on my list, as it is on yours.
Let's stay in touch!
The tech ability is there. The creative piece remains a challenge. I have looked at some of the discussions on your web site and see that people ask the same questions as those we work with here. 'Love the idea'. Our students (young and old!) facebook and myspace.....but how do we adapt this in practical terms ( what kind of projects wil work. how does this fit into a curriculum or syllabus......how does it get graded overall and at what percentage a college student will ask) to useful projects.....lofty goals aside.
By the way, we have just launched this new web site in July 2008. Global Visits has been around for a bit of time....but using this new social networking is new for us. And exciting.
Julie, I hope we can work together.
