Hello Zina!! And thanks so much for again your fabulous hospitalithy while I was in Kyrgyzstan. The dinner with your family was special and the gifts were more than generous. And I came empty handed to Krygyzstan. If I return, I wil bring gifts from America! The trip was a success and I will be keen to follow the success of the Standing Committee . Are you still on line?

Zina....do you think you would like to have some students from your university work in a collaborative project with an American instructor next semester? The only hitch is that the langage medium must be English. WE are looking for projects. And, you were a Fulbrighter in the US. Have you thought of working on a project via Global Visits with one of your US colleagues you worked with here in the US? You were in Virginia, is that right? What do you think?

Zina....you started a forum discussion. And it is excellent! Wonderful! I wil let everyone know by sending a message to alert them to this new forum. Remember, we are just starting. But we are growing!

Zina....yet another idea. Start a discussion. You will see on the main page a section called Forums. There are currently two public discussion forums: I started on on how to create Global Visits projects in the classroom, and a second on perceptions of Kenya. I would suggest you start a discussion now on teaching English to non Enlish speakers over the Internet (via Global Visits!). To start, go to the Forum section. Scroll down and you will see a blue link called Start a Discussion. Click on that link. Give the forum discussion a title, and then simlply begin your discussion. Tell people what you want. You are a university instruction at the International University in Kyrgyzstan. You might tell people that you were a Fulbrighter from Kyrgyzstan in the United States, and tell them where you were in Virginia. You were a scholar or researcher? Then tell them your students want to learn English. Ask people if they have ideas as to how your students can learn English over the Internet, using Global Visits. And also ask if anyone would like to volunteer and work with your stuents. What a great opportunity! As our members grow, I am sure you will get volunteers. And how exciting for your students. They have not started school yet, but when the do, they also can participate in the discussion.

Zina....I have another idea. You have invited me to teach at your school.....you need "native" English speakers. But I cannot come. However, you could get your students or a class of students engaged in an on-going discussion with a group of other students; or a specific class focused on a project; or find an instructor through the Global Visits network who would like the challenge of eteaching your students. It would not be spoken English of course.....but reading and writing are important as well. See how you can use Global Visits to send out an invitation. The members are going to grow.

Zina.....How about starting a blog, or discussion, about Central Asia? I can tell you that most Americans do not know anything about Central Asia. Or, just specifically, Kyrgyzstan?

Zina....welcome to Global Visits! What do you think? What kind of project do you think we could create between Kyrgyzstan and the US?

A 'Wired' Mission

Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.

For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.

Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.
