Thanks NOble. I will download this thread onto a flash drive and hopefully I can do a workshop with a computer that is on line, which will help me upload some of the sites. I did not search any of them thoroughly yet today....do any of them focus on university teaching level that you can recall? That will be critical.

Noble.....thanks for joining the Advisory Board. I would love to have a flash meeting but we need a very good topic.

I have been exchanging comments with Sharon Peters on GEC. I am traveling to Kyrgyzstan in April for three weeks as a Senior Fulbright Specialist to help rejuvenate the AMerican Studies Symposium in Central Asia I started while there in 2003-2004. While there, I have been asked to conduct some workshops and lectures. For the most part, those who will attend will have a good foundation in American Studies and really do not need me (not a specialist in this area) lecturing 'at' them. What I want to do is spend time showing them how they can use the Internet and the wonderful technology available now -- even in countries with challenged tech environments -- how this can enliven their classroom. The university level is slower to catch on. In so much of the world professors think they still need to lecture solid for an hour....that that is learning. The university is far different from the lower grades, but linking classrooms, projects, students and instructors together via collaborative projects would help so much. Sharon PEters made one suggestion to downloads things on a flashdrive such as videos -- also papers, documents, applications -- to share while there.

I am open to suggestions!

A 'Wired' Mission

Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.

For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.

Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.
