Hello Russel, I would like to comment on your remark that bridekidnapping was uncommon prior to the Soviet period. It sounds like it was encouraged under the Soviet period. I believe that the reason for the new "fashion" is that the self-awareness a…

Dear,

Currently, I am working for a huge Telecommunications Company as a Finance Coordinator in Afghanistan. After gaining some real life experience I will go for my graduate studies abroad.

Hi dear,

Sure, I do remember you. I hope you have good time with your students at American University of Bulgaria.

Yes. The program is still going on for female students from Afghanistan. I guess the year 2009 will be the last term for students from Afghanistan.

Thank you for your nice comment. Karim

And that is the spirit of Thanksgiving. Sharing, having fun, celebrating. I agree....our best Thanksgivings have been overseas sharing this special American feast with our international friends.

By the way, I believeI may be in Krygyzstan again this Spring. I will send you an email.

Hello Valentina,
Very glad to see you on Global Visits. We, all the Afghan students, have good memories of you as a teacher. Thanks for all you did for us at AUCA!How are things with you in Belarus?

I understand. One of our major contrihutors does have an idea that involves high school students. They operate very very differently than college students who are often of a non traditional age, but lets see !

Valentina....have you given any further thought to having a joint project on Global Visits? I could find you an American classroom.

Valentina.....then, say hello to David!

I do not know what happened to your message, but.....

Global Visits is not just a social utility like facebook. WE offer an connection between people separated by geography and culture to come together in collaborations in the classroom. I had the Kyrgyz students at AUCA involved in a discussion forum project with a classroom of students in Philadelphia and Indianapolis using the Internet as we are using it now with Global Visits.

You would be hooked up with an instructor (I do not have one now..that depends on what you teach) here in the US and use the features of Global Visits to add to your syllabus, or a course. For example, with this political season, two instructors teaching politics might have used newspapers from each others country to read public opinion about an election or politicians.....or what others thought our American elections. THe exchange would take as a private forum, but your students could also share pictures and videos, links to other sites and projects and post a public blog of their impressions. The actual project itself could be set up as a private group just between the two classsrooms The medium as to English since we Americans are so incapabe of learning other languages :)

And yes, I would welfcome your friend from St. PEtersburg University as well. There is room for a lot of projects. You know how easy it is to sign up. I would find an instructor here in the states you could work with. The both of you would figure out a project to do with your studnets. I can tell you that your students are probably already using facebook.com and will know how to navigate, and we can anything one can do on the powerful facebook.com with its 10 million members.

I can probably get you going with a project in the spring semester.

What are you teaching? For your friend in St Petersburg, but doing a project with students in the US will certainly help their English.

Valentina.....are you working with a university in Belarus? And would someone there (possibly you? others?) be interested in a joint project with an American university instructor? One hitch: the language medium needs to be English.

A 'Wired' Mission

Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.

For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.

Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.
