You were a student in Peg Williams Anthropology class last semester. There is a new group formed called the Afghanistan Study Group. You will find the group on the main page. There are four categories of discussion: culture, education, politics and foreign policy. You may want to join the group and participate. Let me know if you would like to join and have problems signing in: I will send you a personal invite to join the group. The discussions should be very interesting! Welcome aboard. How did you hear about Global Visits?

I agree about Zimbabwe. I lived in southern Africa for 11 years, and traveled to Zimbabwe. Used to be a beautiful country. Mugabe has ruined it, and it is likely never to be restored. The infrastruture top to bottom is destroyed. And regretably, other African leaders have allowed him time to get away with this. Only Mandela seems to be willing to take him on, and he is 90 and unable to do much more than speak out. Such a shame. I miss Africa.

The situation in Zimbabwe is very troubling. The country's leader, Robert Mugabe, is driving it into the ground: many people are starving, and the inflation rate is so high it's almost impossible to measure. Mugabe lost the last election but refuses to admit it. He is staying in power only by beating up his opponents. I think there is little hope for Zimbabwe until he steps down.

A 'Wired' Mission

Go anywhere in the world, and we are 'wired' together by advancing technology. But we have yet to figure out how to 'wire' peace. Our mission is to use this technology to leap over vast cultural and geographical divides, linking students and teachers together, to talk with each other, laugh together, collaborate in a project, share pictures of our families, our favorite songs.....to be friends.

For several years, Global Visits was a pioneer using modern communications technology to linking people together from diverse cultures. We called our efforts 'non traditional' student exchanges.

Now, we join the world of 'social networking' with a serious purpose: peace and understanding.
